Rep. Terry Swinger, represents Pemiscot, and parts of Dunklin and New Madrid county (District 162) in the Missouri House of Representatives. Rep. Swinger was elected in a special election in November 2003 and reelected in 2004. Rep. Swinger is an Optometrist in Caruthersville. He has been in practice since 1965 and has offices in Caruthersville , Kennett, and Portageville.
A Graduate of Dexter High School, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, TN.
In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Swinger is a past cabinet member of the North Central States Optometric Council; past member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Association serving as President in 1992; former trustee of the Missouri Optometry Foundation; former member of the University of Missouri School of Optometry Advisory Council; Member and past President of the Missouri State Board of Optometry. He is also a member of the American Optometric Association, having served on a number of national committees. He received a lifetime Achievement Award from Southern College of Optometry and the St. Louis Optometric Society in 2004. Active in Rotary International, he served as Caruthersville President, President’s Representative and District Governor of District 609.
Rep. Swinger lives in Caruthersville with his wife Delila, whom he married in 2004. He has one son, Anthony and Delila has two daughters, Tammie and Amy. He attends the First Presbyterian Church. |
